Bringing Enduring Class from Our Home to Yours

Nestled at the foot of the Delaware Water Gap, Northampton Woodworking makes furniture.

By "furniture," we mean furniture as it ought to be, not furniture as too often it is: the flimsy, utilitarian items that fill our homes for only a short time before they fill the landfill. For, put simply, our world is full of junk. Imported and mass-produced from cheap, artificial materials, and designed for the latest trend, it peels and breaks after only a few years of use or is discarded in favor of the next fad.

We believe that furniture should be more: it should not only be functional but also a work of art, making life more beautiful just in the using of it. It should be made of natural wood, each piece unique in its grain and color just as the tree it is made from varies from the other trees in the forest. It should be made to last, gaining meaning to us over the years as we use it, pass it down, use it some more and associate it ever more richly with our memories of home and of each other.

In our workshop based in eastern Pennsylvania, we craft each piece of furniture from start to finish. Owners Mark and Aspen Smith teamed up with Master Craftsman Steve Wenzel in 2021 to create Northampton Woodworking. We personally design each piece and craft it painstakingly, holding it to the highest standard of perfection in every detail. (Learn more about our methods in the Our Process page).

We use each piece of furniture in our own homes before marketing it to anyone else, and we can truly say that our furniture is a constant source of delight to us. We're grateful to belong to a family-owned and operated business, and for this opportunity to share the well-made, beautiful furniture we love with you.

Steve Wenzel

Steve is an experienced craftsman who has been designing and creating furniture for over 40 years. Steve has sold his pieces through a high-end furniture store in NYC, and designed pieces for himself and his family. Steve says that if he were to ever retire, he would take up woodworking as a hobby.

Mark Smith

Mark is passionate about beautiful solid wood furniture. He began by searching out pieces for his own home, and now helps Steve design them for others. Mark is the visionary who first dreamed of starting a company to sell real furniture. He brings to the table his artistic creativity, strong business acumen, and over 15 years of customer service experience.

Aspen Smith

Aspen is Northampton Woodworking's marketer and visual designer. She aspires to somehow reproduce on a two-dimensional webpage just how lovely our pieces truly are.
