This classic chest is handcrafted from beautiful solid cherry planks. Even from a distance the wood's unique grain - sanded smooth, naturally aged and oiled - gleams under the light. Crack open the lid and a spicy fragrance rises to greet you from the cedar board floor.
While it's designed as a traditional blanket chest (the aromatic cedar interior deters moths and other insects), this versatile accent piece lends itself to a variety of other uses. Try it as a unique coffee table in the center of the living room, a storage chest and bench at the foot of the bed, or a hope chest to hold precious keepsakes inside and perhaps some potted plants on top.
Our craftsman, Steve, created it from start to finish. He built it to last, carefully dovetailing the planks together and cutting classic curves into the shape of the feet. It's a five board chest, meaning that the top, bottom and sides are each one wide cherry board rather than several narrow boards glued together. Even the wrought iron hinges are hand forged. (The entire piece is made from solid cherry with the exception of the interior floor, which is the traditional aromatic cedar boards.)
